SHERIDAN SWAP

Images

See for yourself what the area around the Sheridan looks like from a pedestrian point of view, and then see what it would look like in our vision plan.

West Farms Rd. is a local street that runs alongside the Sheridan just west of the highway. Here is a view of West Farms Rd. in its current state:

And here is what West Farms Rd. would look like in our New Community Plan:

Bike paths and sidewalks would run all along the Sheridan lands, and commerical/retail space would be next to affordable housing units.. all with access to the Bronx River.

Here is a rendering of the Whitlock Ave. six train station in our Community Plan. The absence of the Sheridan would allow for us to build 1,200 affordable housing units, all with access to the Bronx River and its surrounding green open space. At this intersection we envision a new supermarket and a three-story recreation center, all with easy access to the six train.

Video

Watch this video stimulating a fly-through of the New Community on the Sheridan. Starting from the south by the Bruckner Expressway, you can see Concrete Plant Park (in red) and how the Community Plan would create green space by the waterfront that's accessible to everyone.

The video pauses for a moment at the intersection of Westchester Ave. and Whitlock Ave., showing us what the pedestrian plaza there would look like if there were no trucks barging down those streets. A swimming pool, playgrounds, and the future Starlight Park (the soccer field towards the end of the video) shows how this area would become a vibrant, active neighborhood that links the existing ones on either side of the Bronx River.

Click here to watch a video from the 2008 Tour de Bronx! The TDB is an annual bike ride through the Bronx and a section of it runs down the Sheridan. Take note of how few cars are on the Sheridan. The TDB is a great opportunity to see the Bronx as a bike-friendly neighborhood, and the Community Plan's emphasis on safe bike and pedestrian routes aim to make that an everyday reality.
